Always follow instructions including special directions for individual experiments. Never perform unauthorized experiments or use any equipment or instruments without proper instruction. This will help prevent accidents. 2. Do not enter the stock/supply rooms. 3. Do not work in the laboratory unless the instructor is present. 4. Always act sensibly in the laboratory. Never become involved in horseplay or practical jokes. This will prevent tripping, falling, spillages, and breakages. 5. Wear closed toed shoes and tie back long hair. Wear fitted clothing. 6. Report all accidents, spills, and breakages at once. This will prevent any further damage or injury. 7. Keep benches and floor clear of coats and bags. This will prevent accidents caused by tripping and spillages. 8. Always keep your laboratory work area clean and tidy, and put things away. This will prevent accidents to you and others. 9. No food or drink in the laboratory at any time. 10. Use the gas, electricity, water, and electric heaters for experiments only. This will prevent damage to yourself, your classmates, and to the equipment through fire, electric shock, and burns. 11. When using a Bunsen burner, make sure long hair is tied back and loose clothing tucked in to keep it away from the flame. This will prevent personal injury due to fire. 12. When conducting an experiment, always stand up; never sit down. You can then move out of the way more quickly in the event of an accident, such as a spill. 13. Always wear personal protective equipment, including appropriate eye wear, when told to do so. This will prevent you from being injured. 14. Never attempt to handle broken glass. Alert the teacher immediately. This will prevent cuts to yourself and others. 15. Hazardous materials are disposed of in specific containers. If for any reason, you are unsure of how to dispose of a chemical then you should check with your instructor. 16. If any chemical gets on your hands, or on any other part of your body, inform the teacher and wash it off immediately. This will prevent personal injury and/or damage to clothing. 17. Know the locations and operating procedures of all safety equipment including the first aid kit, eyewash station, safety shower, fire extinguisher, and fire blanket. Know where the fire alarm and the exits are located. 18. In case of a fire drill during a laboratory period; containers must be closed, gas valves turned off and any electrical equipment turned off.
