families can visit our School Council News page for important updates about council operations, grants, training opportunities, and more.

School Council Information
School Council Elections
The election of School Council members must be held within 30 days of the start of the school year. School Councils work to improve student achievement and enhance the accountability
of the education system to parents and caregivers. As collaborators in education, schools and School Councils recognize that all parents/caregivers have an equitable place in our schools'
community. Participation can take many forms. Visit our website to learn about the election process and access useful templates, guides, and resources for running your elections.

School Council Meetings
Typically, School Councils meet in the evening once a month during the school year. At a minimum, your council must meet 4 times a year. The first meeting must be held within 35 days
of the first day of the school year after your new School Council is elected. Learn more about hosting effective meetings.
Parent Involvement Committee (PIC) Applications
Are you an OCDSB parent or guardian interested in education, student achievement, and well-being? The OCDSB is seeking two parent members and two community representatives to serve on
the Parent Involvement Committee (PIC) for a one or two year term, effective November 30, 2023. Learn more about the work of PIC and how to apply.
Our School Council Newsletter Format is Changing
We will be changing how we share news and updates with School Councils. Later this fall, we will be moving away from the current newsletter format. If you are subscribed to our newsletter,
you will stop receiving updates in your inbox. As always, you can read our updates on our School Council News page.
The Supporting School Councils newsletter will be sent to Chairs at their OCDSB School Council email address (sc-schoolname@ocdsb.ca). Chairs are encouraged to share these newsletters
with their council.
If you are a School Council Chair, please speak with your principal to gain access to the OCDSB email address. For more information about how to use the email address, visit our Engaging

Key Dates and Reminders
School Council Reporting
Financial Report: Due September 15, 2023
If your School Council has not yet submitted their financial report, please do so as soon as possible using the School Council Year-End Financial Reporting Google Form. Find step-by-step
instructions here.
Annual Report: Due October 31, 2023
Board Policy P.014.SCO School Councils requires School Councils to prepare an annual report on the school council activities, including fundraising. Councils can submit their report
through the School Council Year-End Report Form. Find more information on our website.
School Council Records: Looking for a refresher on records management? Visit our website.
Board and Committee Meeting Calendar: Board and Committee agendas, minutes, livestreams and recordings of meetings are available for public viewing using the meeting calendar.
