Report No. 06-014 to Chairs’ Committee
Re: 2006-2007 School Year Calendar
ORIGINATORS: Isabel Millington, Executive Officer – Instruction
Members of the School Year Calendar Consultative Committee
PURPOSE:
1. To seek approval of the proposed 2006-2007 School Year Calendar.
BACKGROUND:
2. In accordance with Board and Ministry requirements, a School Year Calendar Consultative
Committee was convened to consider a school year calendar for the 2006-2007 school year.
Please see “Appendix A” for membership.
3. In November of 2005, a draft calendar was sent out to all committee members in order that they
could consult with their association, department, or members prior to the first meeting of the
School Year Calendar Committee. (In January 2005, the 2005-2006 committee looked at the
2006-2007 calendar and agreed that the recommended Ministry calendar could be sent out as a
first draft to next year’s committee.)
4. The consultative committee met on December 20, 2005 and members reported on the results of
their consultations. They agreed that the school year calendar reflected in “Appendix B” be
adopted as the recommended calendar.
5. As has been the practice in previous years, the committee recommends that secondary schools be
given the choice for examination days of either a 4/6 or a 5/5 split (semestered schools) or a 0/10
split (non-semestered schools).
6. Consultation with local area boards of education has also taken place.
7. The related OCDSB policy and procedure are attached for reference as “Appendix C”.
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended:
THAT the school year calendar attached as “Appendix B” be submitted to the Ministry of
Education for approval as the official 2006-2007 school year calendar for OCDSB elementary and
secondary schools.
