Other Recommendations from Committee of the Whole (Budget)
User Fee for Transportation
On a motion by Trustee Scott, your Committee recommends:
THAT the Board request the Minister of Education to grant permission to all Ontario
school boards to charge a user fee for elementary and secondary transportation for
greater equity between students on public transit and on board - provided transportation,
under the assumption that boards receive full and fair transportation grants as compared
to their coterminous boards
2. Timelines for Final Budget AQ rp oval
On a motion by Trustee Spice, your Committee recommends:
A. THAT the Board issue the lay -off notices on a date between 1 March and 18
March dependent on the number of layoffs required because of budget decisions;
B. THAT staffing for the 2002 -03 school year begin at the time established by
contracts based on the same assumptions used for layoffs;
C. THAT a process be negotiated with the federations for adjusting the staffing at a
later date based on changes resulting from further budget changes;
D. THAT the Board finalize its budget in time for it to be submitted, at a time to be
determined by the Board, but prior to the June 15 deadline on the assumption
that that GLGs will be announced sufficiently in advance of June 15 to make this
possible.
3. School Closures
On a motion by Trustee Morse, your Committee recommends:
THAT Board approve the school closure process timelines as outlined in Appendix A
attached.
