Re: Student Transfer Directives for Spring 2002
Trustee Spice has given notice that she will move as follows at the 8 April Board
meeting:
Whereas the implementation of the student transfers policy (P.077. PLG) and procedures
(PR.568.PLG and PR.569.PLG) has produced impediments to school choice and client service
problems for the school year beginning in September 2002;
Whereas there is no time to undertake a full policy and procedure review in time for it to
influence decisions made this spring:
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT,
For spring 2002:
A. THAT all students who qualify for Canterbury Arts who have applied via normal
processes (February or May auditions and those on waiting lists and needing
prerequisites, etc), be admitted as soon as they have met the requirements
regardless of the student transfers policy and procedures, subject to the grade 9 cap
of 225 students;
B. THAT all student transfer appeals to principals/ superintendents be dealt with
within 3 weeks of receipt and that letters to parents and students communicating
the results of these appeals refer to the right of appeal to Trustees and the April 25
deadline for ensuring that these appeals be heard or granted this year (reference
section 4.3.2 of P.077.PLG).
