REPORT NO. 5, HUMAN RESOURCES COMMITTEE
TO: Board of Education
DATE: 3 June 2002
A meeting of the Human Resources Committee was held this evening in the Trustees' Committee
Room, 133 Greenbank Road, Nepean, commencing at 7:30 pm with Trustee Sheryl MacDonald in the
Chair and the following in attendance:
MEMBERS: Trustees Lynn Graham, Jim Libbey, and Sheryl MacDonald (by phone)
ALSO PRESENT: Trustees Myrna Laurenceson , David Moen and Joan Spice
STAFF: Bonnie Viney, Superintendent of Human Resources & Business &
Learning Technologies
Michael Clarke, Superintendent of Financial Services
Janet Beer, Labour Relations Officer
Charles D'Aoust, Coordinator of Budget Services, Financial Systems
Support & Labour Relations Costing
Brenda Cooper, Committee Coordinator
NON - VOTING
REPRESENTATIVE: Tony Pearson, Ontario Secondary School Teachers' Federation (Teachers)
Legal Advisor Roger Mills of Bell, Baker was also in attendance.
1. Approval of the Agenda
On a motion by Trustee Graham, the agenda was approved as presented.
2. Public Ouestion Period
There were no questions from the public.
6. New Business
Trustee Graham reported that she was concerned about the effect of the reduction in
administrative staff at the five largest secondary schools, as they appear to have been hit doubly hard
by the change. In response to her query about how to deal with this, Superintendent Viney advised that it
could be added to the next Board agenda.
Trustees joined Superintendent Viney in thanking Tony Pearson for his consistent interest and input
in his years of representing OSSTF at the Committee. Trustee Graham added that no one has been more
attentive and vigilant. Mr. Pearson expressed appreciation, and remarked that one of the great features
of the OCDSB is the opportunity for input provided to its stakeholders.
The Committee went into the in camera session at 7:45 pm, and the meeting later adjourned at
10:20 pm.
