of the Board
RE: Student Transfers - Clarification of Procedure
Trustee Morse has given notice that she will move as follows at the Board meeting
on 9 September 2002:
Whereas the procedure, which falls out from the Board approved transfer policy, in
section 4.16 indicates that late transfers may only be approved upon completion of the
September staffing deadline;
Whereas this means that students who move over the summer and want to request a transfer
to remain at their former high school have to attend a new school for the month of
September and then transfer at the end of the month;
Whereas this is not in the best interest of the student, particularly if the new school is
semestered and the old one is not;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT staff clarify section 4.16 of the procedure with
respect to student transfers.

ANNEX 1
DESIGNATED SCHOOLS /STUDENT TRANSFERS - SECONDARY
EXCERPT
4.16 Following the final school staffing allocations in September (specific dates will be
published annually), principals will review any late transfer requests received
after the regular application period and /or any transfer requests received during
the regular application period which were refused, to determine whether any
additional transfer approvals are possible within the final staffing arrangements
at receiving and sending schools. Additional transfer approvals may be possible
where there is some flexibility within the final staffing arrangements and /or
where the number of "transfer in" requests is offset by the number of "transfer
out" requests. Discussions between receiving and sending principals should
occur at this time, in order to facilitate the review process. Any additional
transfer approvals will be subject to there being no changes to the final staffing
allocations at the receiving or sending schools and no increases to the approved
accommodation arrangements at receiving schools.
