Aubrey Moodie Scholastic Achievement Award for 1999/2000 ORIGINATOR: Joan Melancon, Assistant Secretary of the Board BACKGROUND: 1. In 1971, the Scholastic Achievement Award was initiated by the "Friends of D. Aubrey Moodie Committee" to be awarded each year to the graduating student attaining the highest scholastic level of any student in the secondary schools in the Carleton Board of Education. STATUS: 2. Since the amalgamation of the former Carleton and Ottawa Boards to form the Ottawa - Carleton District School Board, the award has been presented twice, most recently in June of this year to the recipient for the 1998/99 school year. 3. The award is in the form of a large wall plaque which is retained by the Board and a monetary award from Mr. Moodie in recognition of the student's accomplishment. 4. This year's recipient is Ariel Bums who graduated in June 2000 from Merivale High School. Ariel achieved an average of 99.5 %. 5. Ariel, along with members of her family, will be present at the Board meeting to receive the award. The Principal of Merivale H.S., Mike Neill will also be in attendance. Mr. D. Aubrey Moodie, former Councillor and Reeve of Nepean, is expected to attend and present the award. James P. Grieve Director of Education/ Secretary of the Board
