Aubrey Moodie Scholastic Achievement Award ORIGINATOR: Joan Melancon, Assistant Secretary of the Board BACKGROUND: 1. In 1971, the Scholastic Achievement Award was initiated by the "Friends of D. Aubrey Moodie Committee" to be awarded each year to the graduating student attaining the highest scholastic level of any student in the secondary schools in the Carleton Board of Education. STATUS: 2. Since the amalgamation of the former Carleton and Ottawa Boards to form the Ottawa - Carleton District School Board, the award has been presented 'once, to the student achieving the highest average for the 1997 -98 school year. 3. The award is in the form of a large wall plaque which is retained by the Board, and a smaller individual plaque which is presented to the student. 4. Due to a delay in receiving the information regarding the award for the 1998 -99 school year, arrangements could not be made for the presentation at an earlier Board meeting as the recipient was away attending university. 5. The recipient, Bryan Chan a former student at Lisgar C.I., achieved an average of 99.2% in the 1998/99 school year. 6. Mr. Chan has now completed his first year at university and he, along with members of his family, will be present at the Board meeting to receive the award. 7. Mr. D. Aubrey Moodie, former Councillor and Reeve of Nepean, will be in attendance to present the award. James P. Grieve Director of Education /Secretary of the Board
