RE: Notice of Trustee Workshops /Seminars
Trustee Lynn Graham has given notice that she will move as follows at the 12 June Board
meeting:
Whereas sessions have recently been scheduled for trustees and members of senior staff
to address the following topics: long -term accommodation plan
OCDSB draft mission statement
OCDSB student transfers (including the question of school
choice);
Whereas notice of these sessions has not been provided to any members of the public or
media;
Whereas trustees and senior staff recognize that, in general, meetings are required to be
held in public, unless the matters under discussion fall within the parameters set out in the
Education Act for in camera meetings;
Whereas trustees and senior staff recognize the need for and benefit of holding some
sessions and other informal gatherings involving trustees and staff alone as important
opportunities for open discussion, information gathering, and consensus building;
Therefore be it resolved:
A. THAT notice be circulated to the public and media, according to board practice,
of all functions to which all members of the board are invited, including
functions outside the normal committee and board schedule if the discussions
will move the business of the board materially along the way in the overall
spectrum of a board decision.
B. THAT briefing sessions (e.g. orientation) and team building sessions may be held
for trustees and staff alone as long as policy matters or other issues are presented
but not debated and as long as the board is not being asked for its
recommendations on any change of policy.
