HomeMy WebLinkAbout01a Notice of Motion Trustee S MacDonald re Itinerant ProgramsE14 k) Itinerant Programs STAFF ANALYSIS OF TRUSTEE MOTION Given the many issues including added costs which such a delivery model would present, it is staff's recommendation that this proposed delivery model be examined in greater detail, with an emphasis on available research, beginning with our coterminous school board. The research would be in addition to that proposed to be conducted in 2000 -2001 regarding delivery of programs to pupils with developmental disabilities and to secondary school students. Staffing and potential mileage costs are difficult to estimate until further study of the implications of such a change have been investigated. While staff does not consider it possible to implement the change implied in this motion for September 2000, it would be possible to study the issues and provide impacts and costs in time for next year's budget. 3 ILt OMWA-CAMIMN DISTRICT SCHWL RDwRp TO- Chair and Members DATE: 22 March 2000 Committee of the Whole (Budget) RE: Itinerant ProgFams Trustee Sheryl MacDonald has given notice that she will move as follows at the 22 March 2000 Committee of the Whole (Budget) meeting: Whereas the OCDSB provides a specialized itinerant educational program for students with a visual impairment as well as an itinerant educational program for hearing impaired students; Whereas the OCDSB itinerant educational program for students with a visual impairment provides specialized educational services to visually impaired students attending other area school boards and is recognized as a centre of excellence; Whereas itinerant teachers are responsible for addressing the specific needs of individual students by providing specialized services, supports and interventions directly to impaired students and specialized consultative services to classroom teachers; Whereas the itinerant model of specialized teaching services is recognized as an effective, cost - efficient method to meet the needs of impaired students; THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT the OCDSB develop specialized itinerant programs of service to include students with other exceptionalities who have specialized needs. 9j='Melaxcon Assistant Secretary of the Board James P.
