RE: Professional Development for Teachers
Trustee Norm MacDonald has given notice that he will move as follows at the 29
March 2000 Board meeting:
Whereas, the cost neutral motion significantly modifies the staff proposal for delivering
Special Education services in 2000 -2001 and beyond;
Whereas we expect that further reductions will be required from the Special Education
budget in future budgets as mitigation grants are eliminated and the board is over envelope;
Whereas it is prudent for our front line teachers to be adequately trained to deal with an
increasing number of students requiring extra support;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT $500,000 be sweatered in the Professional
Development Budget, specifically to provide for the headcount to carry out training, as
contemplated in the Special Education Plan and in consultation with SEAC, so that
teachers will be prepared for the effects of future cuts and increasing numbers of IPRC'd
students integrated into regular classrooms.
