HomeMy WebLinkAbout02b Notice of Motion Trustee Scott re Staffing of Fitzroy Schoolsa q1 Staffing of Fitzroy Schools, Trustee Scott Based on the current enrolment in these two schools applied to the 1999 -2000 elementary staffing model, and increasing the Vice- Principal allocation to one full -time release (administrative time) VP shared between the two schools, this change would result in an additional 3.75 positions. If these positions are to be allocated to Fitzroy Harbour and Fitzroy Centennial Schools from the total staff currently generated for the entire system, thus reducing the factors in the staffing model which allocate the system - generated staff among all the elementary schools, there would be no additional cost. If, on the other hand, these positions are to be allocated to the Fitzroy schools without any reduction in the staff allocated to the remaining schools, the cost would be 5252,000. 54PI [Lt'j OTTAWA-CARL TON 01=lcr$0400I WSW TO: Chair and Members DATE: 22 March 2000 Committee of the Whole (Budget) Trustee Scott has given notice that she will move as follows at the 22 March 2000 Committee of the Whole (Budget) meeting. Whereas Fitzroy Centennial and Fitzroy Harbour schools currently share a 1.0 principal position and a 0.5 vice - principal position, and are allocated teaching staff as if they were a single school, typically resulting in understafting in light of the fact that students in the two schools cannot be combined for school organization purposes; Whereas the two schools are located approximately 12 Ian apart Whereas the former Ottawa Board of Education experiment with "twinning" schools appears to have demonstrated unequivocally that sharing school administrations creates significant problems in terms of swift response to school emergencies and ready access to school administration by parents, to the point of being considered unworkable; Whereas the concept of "twinning" schools has now twice been rejected by trustees as a means of reducing costs; Whereas it is clearly inequitable that the Fitzroy schools should be the only schools in the Ottawa - Carleton District School Board that are habitually understaffed as a result of their being ..twinned THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT, beginning in September 2000, the Fitzroy schools be staffed with 1.0 principal and 1.0 vice - principal shared between the two schools, that the elementary staffing formula be applied to each school independently, and that the 2000- 2001 budget be adjusted accordingly.
