Re: Notice of Motion to Amend Committee Recommendation
Re School Closure Timelines and Processes. Trustee Scott
Trustee Scott has given notice that she will move in amendment as follows when Trustee
Jackson's motion from Committee of the Whole (Public) is placed on the floor:
That Parts B and C of Trustee Jackson's motion regarding school closure timelines and processes
be amended to incorporate a more complete public consultation process, as follows:
A. THAT the administration provide service delivery options and closure
recommendations for elementary schools in the OCDSB geographic area inside the
Greenbelt based on a community /family of schools delivery network with a view to
achieving a minimum utilization of 90% at full implementation, including any phase
movement of students, with all closures to take place in 2001 and implementation of
phased movement of students between remaining schools to begin in 2001.
B . THAT said options be presented prior to the end of May 2000, or earlier if available, to
the Board and by principals to their respective school councils and by senior
administration to a special meeting(s) of OCASC;
C. THAT one or two Open House sessions be held by staff in early June, at which the public
can receive information packages and ask questions of Planning staff, with a deadline
in late June for providing feedback to staff on the preliminary options;
D. THAT the final staff recommendations be presented to the Board in late august,
encompassing due consideration of community feedback on the preliminary options;
E. THAT community responses to the. final staff recommendations be made to the Board in
writing, with all delegations on the subject of school closures directed to one Special
Board Meeting in September to be held for the sole purpose of receiving delegations on
the staff recommendations; and
F. THAT the Board render program delivery/school closure decisions in October of 2000.
