OTTAWA-CMUECON
DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD
TO: Chair and Members DATE: 10 January 2000
of the Board
RE: Revision to By -laws - Delegations
Trustee Alex Getty has given advance notice that he will move as follows at the 24
January 2000 Board meeting:
Whereas the section of the Board By -laws related to delegations to Board and its
Committees indicates, as one of the options following a presentation by a delegation, that a
motion from the floor may be entertained as to the disposition of the matter;
Whereas the Board's By -laws provide that substantive issues may only be moved at a
meeting arising from reports circulated with the agenda or by way of notice from individual
members in advance of the meeting at which the issue is to be considered;
Whereas there is a provision in the By -laws to override the requirement for notice,
through unanimous consent of all members present, to deal with an issue of extreme urgency;
Whereas consideration of a motion without advance notice following a delegation has
resulted in other issues which were on the agenda for the meeting not being dealt with
expeditiously;
Whereas amendments to the Board's By -laws require two weeks' notice in writing to all
Board members;
Notice is hereby given
THAT item 7 c) of the Board By -laws with regard Delegations to the Board and
Committees of the Board, (i.e. "entertain a motion from the floor as to the disposition of
the matter ") be deleted.
