Re Trustees Serving on Staff Steering Committees

PURPOSE:
1. To provide information regarding trustee participation on staff steering committees /sub-
committees.
2. At the April Chair's Committee meeting, trustees asked how many trustees are presently
serving on staff steering committees, and whether there is a need to have the Board approve
such participation.
STATUS:
3. Director's Council members were asked to list ad hoc or steering committees they have
established for the current year, with the following result:

4-. There is no requirement in the Board's By -laws or policies to elect or appoint trustees to

Trustees wishing to volunteer to serve on advisory committees are free to do so (see Board policy
P.065.GOV: Advisory Committees to the Board, section 2.4). The Chair is ex officio a member
of all advisory committees approved by the Board.
Staff steering committees are not included in Board policy. Such committees are established
from time to time on an as- needed or continuing basis, to consult regarding issues or programs and
may include representation from staff groups, trustees, parents, students and the wider
