Re: Confirmation of Trustee Alternate and Community Representative
& Alternate on the Supervised Alternative Learning for Excused Pupils' Committee

PURPOSE:
1. To confirm the appointment of a Trustee alternate and a community representative and alternate on the
Supervised Alternative Learning for Excused Pupils' Committee
BACKGROUND:
2. At its organizational meeting of 14 January 1998, the Board appointed Trustee Patty Anne Hill as the
trustee member on the Supervised Alternative Learning for Excused Pupils' Committee.
3. The Board approved a Policy governing SALEP at its meeting of 11 May 1998.
4. The policy indicates that the Committee shall be composed of one trustee and one alternate appointed
by the Board at its organizational meeting, the Superintendent of School Operations or designate
alternate appointed by the Director of Education, and one community representative and alternate
selected by the other members of the committee and appointed for the duration of the term of the
Board.
In accordance with the legislation and Board policy, the community representative and alternate
cannot be members or employees of the Board.
The two.candidates who have been endorsed by the other members of the SALEP both have had
extensive involvement and a continuing interest in public education and meet the qualifications for
community representatives.
7. Background information on the two candidates has been circulated to trustees under separate cover.
RECOMMENDATION:
That the Board confirm a Trustee alternate for the current Board year (to the end of November 1998)
and a community representative and alternate to serve on the Supervised Alt mative Learning for
Excused Pupils' Committee for the term ending 30 November.".
