I have two issues which I am extremely concerned about and wish to address.
P.1
Issue 41: Junior Kindergarten - I feel that Junior Kindergarten should not have been re- instated.
The reason I think this is that it is an expense that the tax payers can do without. If there was any
value to it, the expense may be justified but I just do not see it. I sent my daughter to X and
found that she learned more after school with me that she did in class. It is nothing more than a
glorified dayc -are centre. If a parent would like this "glorified daycare program ", why not have
them underwrite the cost?
Issue #2: The second issue of concern affects my daughter a great deal and therefore concerns
me. The kids in our area missed a great deal of school this year due to the ice storm (which we
can't control) and the teachers strike (which we should be able to control). The decision of
Cedarview Muddle School was to lesson the amount of work, (ie: less book reports, less math
assignments) and a little more help at lunch time. My understanding from the teacher is that the
curriculum next year will not be changed to meet the shortfall this year. If a student is struggling
this year, imagine what will happen next year. Some of the answers to our questions from the
principal are that most of the last three weeks of the year are spent reviewing the material they
have already gone through. Do they not need this review? If not, why not shorten the school year
and have that reflected in our tax bill. Maybe the teachers could go to school for those three
weeks to leant the new program they will be working with next year.
At any rate I feel like my daughter has been robbed this year and is struggling to the point where
we will have i;o consider pulling her out of the French Immersion program that she has been
doing so well in over the years.
Thank you fb:r your time.
Sincerely,
Lanny D. Tho:mton
