Trustee Bled has given notice that she will move as follows at the 23 March 1998
meeting of the Board:
WHEREAS there is serious concern in certain schools over issues such as program
entitlements, school boundary changes, school closures, transportation changes, among
others; and
WHEREAS the level of concern is heightened among some parents who consider their
schools to be particularly vulnerable to closure under the present scenario; and
WHEREAS it remains an unknown at this point how enrollment in any one school will
be impacted as a result of 1998 -99 budget decisions re programs and transportation,
among others; and
WHEREAS lead time is needed for serious consideration and analysis of the direct and
indirect impact on schools resulting from decisions taken with regard to the 1998 -99
budget;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:
A. THAT, IN ITS DELIBERATIONS FOR THE SCHOOL YEAR 1998 -99, THE
BOARD PROCEED WITHOUT CONSIDERING THE CLOSURE OF ANY
SCHOOL IN SEPTEMBER 1998 AS PART OF ITS BUDGET DECISIONS,
AND THAT THIS DECISION BE CLEARLY COMMUNICATED TO THE
PUBLIC.
B . THAT IDENTIFYING ANY PARTICULAR SCHOOL FOR POTENTIAL
CLOSURE DUE TO EXCESS SPACE, BE DONE FOR THE SCHOOL YEAR
1999 -2000 WHICH ALLOWS TIME FOR A STUDY OF THE POST 1998 -99
BUDGET IMPACT ON SCHOOL ENROLLMENTS TO BE CONSIDERED AS A
DETERMINING FACTOR.
Trustee Bled will provide further rationale for her motion at the meeting.
