RE: Presentation by Mayor Janet Stavinga to the Board of Trustees, Dec 21, 1998
Mayor Stavinga intends to address the Board regarding the critical shortage of student
accommodations in our community. The tremendous population growth in Goulbourn, as well as
in the neighbouring areas of Kanata and West Carleton is expected to continue. The inadequacy
of capital allocations over the last number of years served to exacerbate the overcrowding and has
increased the backlog for construction of new schools.
Citizens are becoming increasingly frustrated and outraged by the overcrowded conditions of our
schools. We are in a crisis situation that requires the concerted and cooperative effort of all
levels of government to address these circumstances.
