HomeMy WebLinkAbout17d Notice of Motion Trustee Graham re Community Membership on Advisory Committees (2)116,*,,- Ottawa - Carleton District School Board TO: Chair and Members DATE: 13 July 1998 of the Board Trustee Graham has given notice that she will move as follows at the 13 July Board meeting: Whereas the OCDSB has recently established the following advisory committees: a) an arts advisory committee; b) an advisory committee on computers for instructional use; C) an advisory committee to address the needs of children at risk.- d) an alternative learning advisory committee; and e) a school year calendar advisory committee; Whereas the terms of reference for these committees do not address a number of questions pertaining to community membership ; Whereas consistency with regard to guidelines for community membership is desirable for these committees; Whereas it is important for a public institution to renew its membership while ensuring continuity; Whereas the OCDSB must be publicly accountable; THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: A.* That Policy P.048.GOV: Advisory Committees to the Board be revised to address the following issues related to community membership on advisory committees as follows: - method of recruitment of community members - procedure for approving the community members to be named to the committee - length of term of office for community members - number of consecutive terms a community member can serve on the committee; B . That the revised policy be presented to the September meeting of the Chair's Committee. *(Note: This revision is to apply to all advisory committees where aspects of community membership have not already been specified by Act or Regulation e.g. SEAC) Trustee Graham will provide additional rationale for her motion at the meeting. oard
