Standard 8- Categories and Definitions of Exceptional ities
Purpose: To make information on the categories and definitions of
exceptionalities available to the public, including parents and community
associations.
Key Points:
• All details in this standard are copied from the information provided by the
Ministry
• In previous SEAC discussion regarding this standard, the consistency of
language has been raised
• The organization this standard is under the broad headings of Behaviour,
Communication, Intellectual, Physical and Multiple.
• The exceptionalities listed would be the full range available to be applied
at the IPRC meeting
Looking Forward
• Continued work in clarifying for all stakeholders the distinction between
diagnosis and exceptionality
• Continued discussion at the Ministry level to address the realities of
students who have complex profiles
Standard 15- Acessibility of School Buildings
Purpose: To provide the ministry with further details of the board's multiyear plan,
which was previously submitted to the ministry, for improving accessibility for
students with physical and sensory disabilities, and to provide the public with this
information.
Key Points:
• The details of this standard is from the combined work of Human
Resources and Facilities /Planning
• Annually the Board receives a report in June on the Board Accessibility
Plan which informs this standard
• The OCDSB Accessibility Committee continues to meet and is comprised
of community members and staff from Business Learning Technology,
Communication, Curriculum Services, Facilities /Planning, Finance, Human
Resources, Learning Support Services, and OSTA.
Looking Forward
• Revision of the OCDSB Accessibility Policy which SEAC saw last month
• Continued consultation between departments with new construction
