Ontario Student Transcript (OST) 2. Common Course Codes (CCC) Aoplication: Directors of Education School Principals Reference: This memorandum replaces Records /Data Memorandum No. 11, June 7, 1984. Implementation of the Common Course Codes (CCC) and the Ontario Student Transcript (OST) became compulsory in Ontario secondary schools as of September 1, 1985. Ministry of Education policy requirements for the CCC and the OST were set out in Records /Data Memorandum No. 11, June 7, 1984. Secondary schools and school boards have worked diligently to comply with CCC and OST requirements. Some concerns have been identified during this conversion process that the modifications and clarifications outlined below are intended to address. 1. Ontario Student Transcript (OST) '11 '"y' a) Revised OST Manual A revised OST manual will be distributed in the spring of 1986. This manual will incorporate modifications and clarify existing requirements. It will replace Records /Data Memorandum No. 11, September 16, 1983, and Records /Data Memorandum No. 11, June 7, 1984. It will be scheduled for review in 1990. b) Modi±ications to OST Conversion Requirements i) An official OST will be required for all students enrolled in an Ontario secondary school course or program on or after September 1, 1984. The conversion of courses to common course codes and /or titles will therefore be limited to the following years: Date Sept. 1, 1984 11 tl 11 11 11 Grade 13 12 11 10 9 Courses Requiring Conversion* 1980, 81, 82, 83, 84 courses 1981, 82, 83, 84 1982, 83, 84 1983, 84 1984 * Pre -1980 courses will be converted to CCCs and /or common course titles if they were included in a student record of achievement. v° Education Ontario Memorandum No. 11 ii) Exceptions Students who were not enrolled in an Ontario secondary school course or program on September 1, 1984, but require an OST for the purpose ot entering an Ontario secondary school credit course or program, will be provided with an official OST from their last school of attendance. 2. Common Course Codes (CCC) a) Revised CCC Manual A revised CCC manual will be distributed in the spring of 1986. This manual will incorporate modifications and clarify existing requirements. It will replace Records /Data Memorandum No. 11, September 16, 1983, and Records /Data Memorandum No. 11, June 7, 1984. It will be scheduled for review in 1990. b) CCC Tables Attached to this memorandum is a sample of the CCC tables that will be included in the revised CCC manual. These tables will refer each CCC and title to a curriculum guideline. New curriculum guidelines will be released with CCC table insert pages. The revised manual will thus include a complete and up -to -date record of all CCCs and titles. c) CCC Characters The CCCs will continue to have five designated common characters. The meaning ot any additional characters added to the CCC will be fixed by the secondary school or school board and will apply in its jurisdiction only. d) Modifications to CCC Requirements These modifications will be mandatory as of August 31, 1987. i) Non - guideline courses The fifth character of the CCC will be used to identify a non - guideline course: 'X' will indicate a non - guideline course offered at the advanced level of difficulty; 'Y' will indicate a non - guideline course offered at the general level of ditticulty; 'Z' will indicate a non - guideline course offered at the basic level of difficulty. L Ecuca; en Ontario Memorandum No. 11 - All approved non - guideline courses will have a common course title designation that identifies their subject group. ii) Co- operative education programs — The CCC will remain the same for both the "in- school" and "out -of- school" components of a co- operative education program. - The common course title will include the designation "(Co -op Ed)" beside the subject title for the out -of- school component of the program only. Example: in- school - BAC 3G Accounting out -of- school - BAC 3G Accounting (Co -op Ed) - The credit and achievement columns on the OST will show a separate credit allocation and mark for both the out -of- school and in- school parts of the program.
