APPENDIX
GRADE 9 COMMON COURSE CODE LIST FOR SEPTEMBER 1999
IMPLEMENTATION
Common Course Code Format
The common course code (CCC) consists of the following components, designated by the
Ministry of Education and Training:
- five code characters
- a course title
The CCC Characters
The first three characters of the CCC are assigned by the Ministry and are provided in the course
descriptions and will be made available in the Common course codes table. Secondary schools
will add the fourth and fifth code characters for all courses in their curriculum, to indicate the
grade or level of proficiency and the type of course. Additional characters may be used by the
schools.
The fourth code refers to the grade of the course:
1 - Grade 9
2 - Grade 10
3 - Grade 11
4- Grade 12
or refers to the level of proficiency of a language course such as in English as a second language
A - Level 1
B - Level 2
C - Level 3
D - Level 4
E - Level 5
Course type refer to the fifth character of the common course codes. For guideline courses,
course types are:
D - Academic
P - Applied
0- Open
For locally developed courses, course types are:
