This memo contains additions to the Common Course Code List and a fully revised appendix . These additions will permit schools to identify, more accurately, the focus of courses they are offering to Grade 9 students who start their high school careers in September 1999. Secondary schools will add the fourth and fifth code characters for all courses in their curriculum, to indicate the grade or level of proficiency and the type of course. Additional characters may be used by the schools. The fourth code refers to the grade of the course: 1 - Grade 9 2 - Grade 10 3 - Grade 11 4- Grade 12 or refers to the level of proficiency of a language course such as in English as a second language A - Level 1 B - Level 2 C - Level 3 D - Level 4 E - Level 5 Course type refer to the fifth character of the common course codes.
