HomeMy WebLinkAboutP 078 FAC - School Site Assess. and Aquisition -1- P.078.FAC POLICY P.078.FAC TITLE: SCHOOL SITE ASSESSMENT AND ACQUISITION Date issued: June 1999 Last Revised: Authorization: Board: 25 May 1999 1.0 OBJECTIVE 1.1 To provide a framework for school site assessment and acquisition. 2.0 POLICY 2.1 The Board recognizes that one of its primary mandates is to provide educational services in suitable facilities located in the area of the residences of the students served therein. 2.2 In order to meet the anticipated educational facility needs of the Board into the foreseeable future, the Board shall identify in its long-range facilities plan and Capital Expenditure Forecast new school sites that will be required within a broad community or within a particular sector of the community. 2.3 The Board shall determine the number and kinds of sites to be acquired based on current and future student/demographic data, transportation issues, and program, school and community needs. 2.4 The Board shall ensure that a standard set of criteria is developed to be used in the site assessment/selection/acquisition process. 2.5 The Board shall have final approval regarding the location, size and shape of a school site in accordance with the School Site Assessment and Selection Criteria outlined in Board Procedure PR.570.FAC accompanying this policy. 2.6 The Board shall provide authorization and direction to staff at major milestones in the assessment/acquisition process, as follows: site designation, approval of plans of subdivision, selection of proposed sites, selection of preferred site, offer to purchase, and negotiations leading to the completion of the transaction. 2.7 The Director of Education is authorized to issue such procedures as may be necessary to support this policy. -2- P.078.FAC 3.0 REFERENCES The Education Act 1998, s. 195 Board Procedure PR.570.FAC: School Site Assessment and Acquisition
