HomeMy WebLinkAboutP 076 PLG - Pupil AccomodationPOLICY P.076.PLG TITLE: Date Authorized: Last Revised: Last Reviewed: PUPIL ACCOMMODATION February 1999 07 May 2024 (Tier 1 Minor Housekeeping Edits) 07 May 2024 COMMITMENT TO INDIGENOUS RIGHTS, HUMAN RIGHTS, AND EQUITY The Board recognizes its responsibility to ensure that this policy and associated procedures promote and protect Indigenous rights, human rights, and equity. The Board will strive to address and eliminate discrimination and structural and systemic barriers for students, staff, and the community. 1.0 RATIONALE To provide a framework to address the accommodation needs of students within each school in the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board. 2.0 DEFINITIONS Please refer to Appendix A for a full list of definitions used in this policy. 3.0 GUIDING PRINCIPLES 3.1 The Board recognizes that its primary mandate with regard to real property is to provide space for educational programs and services for the student population it serves based on the needs of communities and the demand for programs. 4.0 SPECIFIC DIRECTIVES 4.1 The Board shall endeavour to ensure that its facilities, including portable or temporary structures, are used to maximum effectiveness for day school purposes. 4.2 The Board shall ensure that consistent and equitable accommodation guidelines are adopted and applied in order to: a) meet the educational needs of the student population of a school; and b) ensure that the space within a school is being used efficiently. -1-P.076.PLG 4.3 These guidelines,as outlined in Procedure PR.567.PLG,shall comply with the recommendations made by the Pupil Accommodation Review Committee and supported by the Ministry of Education. 4.4 The accommodation needs of a school shall be determined by the Principal, Superintendent of Education and the Associate Director of Business Operations. 4.5 The Director of Education is authorized to issue procedures as may be necessary to support this policy. 5.0 APPENDICES Appendix A:Policy Definitions 6.0 REFERENCE DOCUMENTS Guide to Pupil Accommodation Reviews,2016 Ministry of Education Memorandum entitled Recommendations Regarding the Calculation of School Capacity,29 September 1998 OCDSB Procedure PR.567.PLG:Pupil Accommodation -2-P.076.PLG APPENDIX A:POLICY DEFINITIONS In this policy, Board means Board of Trustees.
