TITLE: HOME INSTRUCTION

1.0 OBJECTIVE
To provide for home instruction where:
a) medical evidence that the pupil cannot attend school is provided, in writing, to the
principal; and
b) the principal is satisfied that home instruction is required.
2.0 POLICY
2.1 Under the Education Act, home instruction may be provided on the recommendation of
a school principal, subject to the approval of the appropriate supervisory officer.
2.2 The Board supports the provision of home instruction subject to available resources.
2.3 Recognizing that the availability of this service will be subject to the Board's annual
budget process, up to a maximum of five hours per week of instruction shall be provided
to eligible students recommended by a principal and approved by an appropriate
supervisory officer to receive home instruction.
3.0 SPECIFIC DIRECTIVES
3.1 The Director of Education is authorized to issue such procedures as may be necessary
to implement this policy.
