HomeMy WebLinkAboutPR 519 CUR - Learning Media Requiring Approval -1- PR.519.CUR PROCEDURE PR.519.CUR TITLE: LEARNING MEDIA REQUIRING APPROVAL Date issued: February 1999 Last revised: 15 September 2003 Authorization: Senior Staff: 25 November 1998 1.0 OBJECTIVE To establish the procedure for obtaining Board approval for non -Trillium List textbooks/learning media for school use. 2.0 RESPONSIBILITY 2.1 School principals 3.0 PROCEDURE 3.1 All textbooks/learning media listed in the Trillium List will be assumed to have been approved by the Board. 3.2 Approval for textbooks/learning media not listed in the Trillium List will be sought as follows: a) a teacher or department head recommends a textbook/learning resource, with a clear rationale for its selection, to the principal; b) if the principal concurs with the recommendation, he/she submits the textbook/learning resource to the Superintendent responsible for schools with a completed form for approval of non-Trillium List materials (see Attachment 1); c) as the Ministry of Education must receive submissions for approval for September use by March 31, submissions to Superintendents responsible for schools must be received by March 1; d) the Superintendent responsible for the school, if satisfied that the textbook/learning resource is appropriate, forwards the submission to the Superintendent, Curriculum Services for presentation and recommendation to the Board; -2- PR.519.CUR e) a copy of the textbooks/learning media submitted for approval will be made available in the Trustees’ Lounge in advance of the B oard meeting; f) If Ministerial approval is required, the Superintendent of Instruction will submit the application to the Regional Director of Education. 4.0 APPENDICES Attachment 1 — Board Approval for Non-Trillium List Textbooks/Learning Media 5.0 REFERENCE DOCUMENTS Education Act, 1998, Section 170, (13) Education Act, 1998, Section 171, (1) para. 14 Education Act, 1998, Reg. 298, Section 7 Ministry of Education Trillium List: Textbooks Board Policy P.030.CUR: Learning Media Requiring Approval Board Policy P.031.CUR: Learning Resources Board Policies and Procedures connected with Curriculum Design Curriculum documents Board Procedure PR.520.CUR: Learning Resources -3- PR.519.CUR PR.519.CUR Attachment 1 Board Approval for Non-Trillium List Textbooks/Learning Media A.
