HomeMy WebLinkAboutPR 562 CUR - Ottawa-Carleton Research Advisory Commitee -1- PR.562.CUR PROCEDURE PR.562.CUR TITLE: OTTAWA-CARLETON RESEARCH EVALUATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE Date issued: February 1999 Last revised: 30 September 2014 Authorization: Senior Staff: 28 November 1998 1.0 OBJECTIVE To outline the process to permit the operation of the Ottawa -Carleton Research Evaluation Advisory Committee. 2.0 RESPONSIBILITY 2.1 Superintendent, Curriculum Services 3.0 DEFINITIONS In this procedure, 3.1 The Ottawa-Carleton Research Evaluation Advisory Committee is made up of representatives from two school boards in the Ottawa-Carleton region. 3.2 The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board agrees to be a member of the Ottawa - Carleton Research Evaluation Advisory Committee and to co-ordinate non-Board- initiated research projects through that body. 3.3 The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board will be represented on the Committee by four staff members appointed by the Director of Education. 3.4 The Quality Assurance Division will provide staff support to th e Committee. 4.0 PROCEDURE 4.1 The Committee will co-ordinate all non-Board-initiated research which involves the resources of the Board, the time of its staff, and/or the participation of students. 4.2 The Committee will: a) support and encourage research that contributes to educational knowledge; -2- PR.562.CUR b) standardize the approval process for research applicants; c) study and review all requests for non-board-initiated research to be conducted in the school boards involved; d) determine the impact of each request on the school system; e) measure the degree of involvement required by staff, students, and parents; and f) judge the relevance of each request to the educational objective and policies of the school board concerned. 4.3 A quorum of the Committee will be any four of its members as long as each member board is represented. 4.4 The Quality Assurance Division will make recommendations concerning non-Board- initiated research to the Director's Executive Council and to the Committee of the Whole, and will submit an annual report to that Committee. 5.0 REFERENCE DOCUMENTS Board Policy P.072.CUR: Requests to Conduct Non-Board-Initiated Research in Schools Research Guidelines and Application -- available from Quality Assurance Division
