Dear ____________________
Your letter requesting exemption from the elementary Core French program for (name of
student) has been received.
Discontinuing the study of French may create a problem at the secondary level, as
secondary school students are required to earn one credit in French as a Second Language in
order to qualify for an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD). However, the Ministry of
Ontario Secondary Schools: Grades 9 to 12
Education, in its document , section 3.2, permits the
principal of the school to replace a compulsory credit with “courses from the remainder of those
that meet the compulsory credit requirements”.
With this information in mind, and taking into consideration the information that you
have provided, your request for exemption from Core French for your child has been granted.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Yours sincerely,
