Discontinuing the study of French may create a problem at the secondary level, as secondary school students are required to earn one credit in French as a Second Language in order to qualify for an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD). However, the Ministry of Ontario Secondary Schools: Grades 9 to 12 Education, in its document , section 3.2, permits the principal of the school to replace a compulsory credit with “courses from the remainder of those that meet the compulsory credit requirements”. With this information in mind, and taking into consideration the information that you have provided, your request for exemption from Core French for your child has been granted.
