Re City Ward Boundaries Review

PURPOSE:
To propose that interested trustees consider preparation of a Board position and making a
representation to the City's Corporate Services Committee next Tuesday, 18 June 2002.

STATUS:
2. The proposed reconfiguration of some of the boundaries will have significant implications for
the OCDSB's current trustee zones.
3. Packages distributed by the City at this afternoon's meeting are provided for trustees'
information this evening. The time allowed for reaction by school boards and the public to
respond to this package is exceedingly short.
4. A chart is.attached showing changes in electoral quotients for our current trustee zones that
could occur should these proposals be adopted by City Council at its late June or early July
meeting. Delegations cannot present their positions at the City Council meeting.
5. If the Board wishes to make a representation on this subject to City Council, a time will be
requested for a delegation to attend the Corporate Services Committee meeting scheduled for
next Tuesday, 18 June 2002, at 2:30 p.m.
6. It is suggested that the Chair reconvene the group of trustees who volunteered to attend the
City Ward Boundaries Task Force hearing in April, 2002 for the purpose of considering whether
or not to make a representation to the City on 18 June. Should a recommended position be
developed by the group, the draft position will need to be circulated to all trustees for approval
prior to next week's Corporate Services Committee meeting.
RECOMMENDATION:
THAT the Chair convene a meeting of interested trustees in order to consider whether to recommend
that the Board take a position on the proposed new City of Ottawa ward boundaries, and, if such a
position is agreed upon by the Board, to make a representation in this regard to the Corporate Services
Committee of the City of Ottawa on Tuesday, 18 June 2002. ,
