Edmonton Catholic Schools says it has changed its practices after a computer robocalled a dead teenager's house to report him
absent on the day before his funeral.
St. Thomas More Junior High student Ethan Dizon, 14, died by suicide Jan. 8. The ninth grader is the second student at the school to
kill himself this school year, which has prompted his sister Chloe Dizon to petition the school district to call in an independent
investigator.
On Tuesday, school district superintendent Joan Carr apologized to Ethan's family for failing to stop automatic calls from the
school's information system to his family's home saying Ethan hadn't shown up for school.
On the online petition, Chloe chastised the school for placing the calls two weeks after her brother's death.
"Not only is this utterly disrespectful towards my deceased brother but this is outrageously rude towards my family and I," she wrote.

In future, any students who die will immediately be removed from automatic call lists, Carr said, adding the district is "deeply sorry"
for the grief the calls caused.
Chloe addressed the Edmonton Catholic School Board Tuesday, handing over the petition signed by 4,400 people, along with
testimonials from students who had attended St. Thomas More.
The school has three sports academies — for soccer, hockey and baseball. At the meeting, Chloe alleged school staff treat students
differently depending on whether they are enrolled in an academy or in the mainstream course of studies.
"It fosters an environment that leaves regular stream students feeling they are of a lower class than the academy," said Chloe, who
graduated from the school in 2015.
Carr reiterated a previous district statement that an internal investigation has showed no indication bullying was a factor in Ethan's
death.
