Veronica Fleming wrote her post during school hours and was stripped of her classroom. Her controversial post added that there would be "less mouths to feed" under U.S. President Donald Trump's deportation scheme. Fleming thanked the president. Fleming had taught at Parkside Elementary School in Naples where Latino children make up 70% of the student body and Haitians account for another 20%. Her post triggered outrage and parents soon flooded the school's switchboard complaining. Her full post read: "The funny part about immigrants staying home is the rest of us who pay for them are here at work like we've always been. Looks like less mouths to feed today. Have fun while you still can." She added: "So glad to hear about massive deportation. Let's make America great again. Thanks Donald Trump!" Fleming was a computer teacher at the school. An online petition calling for her ouster quickly garnered 3,000 signatures. "We greatly appreciate our parents who have communicated to the school to share concerns so that we can address this issue," principal Tamie Stewart said. " I want to ensure our families that this person's individual post is not at all reflective of our school staff in any way."
