Today's letters: The Senators' logo idea earns a big zero I Ottawa Citizen
being arrested for allegedly groping women in the local coffee shop and,
apparently, not for the first time.
Your paper, in an earlier issue, said it took three staff members to eject
Abdirahman Abdi, who was obviously a very strong man. Also, he had mental
problems. I would be careful about litigation if I were in the family's position.
Don't be so one-sided the next time around, please.

Public school board's focus is too narrow
Re: September closure of six public schools now final, March 2.
There is an inherent problem with the Ottawa -Carleton District School
Board. Ottawa's public English-language school board defines itself by its
French immersion programs. Instead of striving for excellence in English
language education, the mother tongue of the majority of its students, the
OCDSB has consumed its dwindling resources on its lacklustre French
immersion programs, with dubious results.

Let's embrace both languages
Re: Why Ottawa must become officially bilingual, Feb. 26.
I wonder how many of your anglophone readers had to pay out of their own
pocket to learn French? There certainly weren't any "English immersion"
classes in the schools I attended.
Can you imagine being unilingual francophone? It wouldn't be difficult to
find work, it would be impossible! I also wonder how many of your
anglophone readers have their names misspelled on their drivers' licence
and their health card because the system doesn't support accented letters.
This is a provincial concern, but still.
I embrace the English language, knowing it has given me so many
opportunities. I just wish other people saw learning how to speak French in
the same vein. Then you wouldn't need legislation.
