OCDSB 594UE Casual Union Exempt Timesheet (Dec 2017) Page 2 of 2 The Union-Exempt Handbook defines casual/temporary employment as follows: “Employment for a temporary period of time, not to exceed six months, to accommodate heavy workload or replace regular employees during absences.” In addition, students employed during the school vacation period are considered union-exempt employees. Reference Union Exempt Handbook – Appendix B Salary Schedule Grid Step Closest to Previous Salary Inclusive of vacation pay Where an employee is being hired as a casual for six (6) months or less to do a special project, the rate of pay will be established, in consultation with Human Resources, to reflect the skills and knowledge required to perform the work as well as the qualifications and experience of the employee. The rate of pay must be approved by the immediate supervisor, the superintendent, and the Superintendent of Human Resources (or designate).
