HomeMy WebLinkAboutPR 595 HS - Health And Safety AwardPROCEDURE PR.595.HS TITLE:HEALTH AND SAFETY AWARD Date Authorized:07 July 1999 Last Revised:23 January 2024 Last Reviewed:23 January 2024 COMMITMENT TO INDIGENOUS RIGHTS,HUMAN RIGHTS,AND EQUITY The District recognizes its responsibility to ensure that this procedure promotes and protects Indigenous rights,human rights,and equity.The District will strive to address and eliminate discrimination and structural and systemic barriers for students,staff,and the community. 1.0 RATIONALE To recognize staff participation in the ongoing improvement of the OCDSB Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S)management system in support of OCDSB Policy P.058.HS Occupational Health and Safety. 2.0 DEFINITIONS Please refer to Appendix A for a full list of definitions used in this procedure. 3.0 RESPONSIBILITY 3.1 The OH&S Team is responsible for maintaining this procedure and participating in Health and Safety Award presentations. 3.2 The Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC)is responsible for approving nominations for Health and Safety Awards and participating in award presentations. 4.0 PROCEDURE Nomination 4.1 The Health and Safety Award is established to recognize worksites or Workers who have contributed to the health and safety of the OCDSB staff and/or students through: a)an outstanding contribution; b)a recommendation for improvement; c)ongoing commitment to health and safety. 4.2 Staff members may submit an application to nominate another member for the Health and Safety Award using the form in eBASE. -1-PR.595.HS Approval Process 4.3 Should the JHSC approve a submission,the OH&S Team Manager will: a)make arrangements to have the Health and Safety Award Certificate prepared; and b)arrange to have the Certificate presented to the Worker/worksite. 4.4 Should the JHSC not approve a submission, a)a Co-Chair of the JHSC will advise the originator of the reason;and b)may draft a letter of appreciation to the Worker/worksite for their efforts in the area of health and safety. 5.0 APPENDICES Appendix A:Procedure Definitions 6.0 REFERENCE DOCUMENTS Occupational Health and Safety Act of Ontario OCDSB Policy P.058 Occupational Health and Safety -2-PR.595.HS APPENDIX A:PROCEDURE DEFINITIONS In this procedure, Board means the Board of Trustees. District means the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board. Worker means any of the following: A.A person who performs work or supplies services for monetary compensation; B.A secondary school student who performs work or supplies services for no monetary compensation under a work experience program authorized by the school board that operates the school in which the student is enrolled; C.A person who performs work or supplies services for no monetary compensation under a program approved by a college of applied arts and technology,university or other post-secondary institution; D.A person who receives training from the OCDSB,but who,under the Ontario Employment Standards Act,2000,is not an employee for the purposes of that Act because the conditions set out in subsection 1(2)of that Act have been met;and E.Such other persons as may be defined as a worker by the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act. -3-PR.595.HS
