Lisa Thompson says ministry staff are working to inform school boards of the decision to revert to the curriculum that was in place before 2015. Thompson says the ministry will be moving quickly to consult parents on how to update the curriculum and details on that process will be coming soon. Premier Doug Ford promised to repeal and replace the controversial sex -ed curriculum when he ran for the Progressive Conservative leadership and repeated the pledge during the spring election. The new sex -ed curriculum sparked controversy, particularly among social conservatives, when the Liberal government introduced it. It was the first time the curriculum had been updated since 1998 and included warnings about online bullying and sexting, but protesters zeroed in on discussions of same-sex marriage, gender identity and masturbation. Thompson also says the ministry is looking into how to replace a $100 - million fund earmarked for school repairs that was cut earlier this month. The money was to be paid out from revenues of the cap -and -trade system, which Ford began dismantling almost immediately after taking office, as he had promised to do. Thompson says the government will try to find internal sources to replace the funding, which was announced in April and cut earlier this month, surprising school boards that had just begun to spend the money. Dianne Skoll Let's see the reaction of the Regressive Conservatives when teen pregnancy rates skyrocket because they've delighted in keeping kids ignorant. A sad day for Ontario's future. Will students who have been receiving age appropriate intelligent and accurate sex ed have to go to re-education camps before they can return to school so they can be instilled with prejudices and archaic views of human biology? Many parents will want to avoid seeing their children regress from an intelligent and emotional stable view of sex so will progressive parents concerned about the safety and health of their children be able to "opt out" of the "new old not sex ed" classes and instead have access to the age appropriate sex ed material for their children that the religious people are having banned from our schools? Kids, women, Igbtg2, men -everyone loses when education isn't up to date Like • Reply • 2 • 13h Alex Watson Glad to see Ford keeping his promises. Replacing the terrible Liberal sex -ed curriculum with a more grounded and science -based one is definitely a good move. #ScheerNextYear Like • Reply • 10h ill` "° Tony Butler It is anti -science to retrograde the sex ed. Trying to teach kids a program that is decades old and incomplete when they have already been learning facts properly will generate in the children nothing but disrespect and mistrust of adults.
