Wayine Cuddington / Ilio stirnediia Event organizers didn't realize at first the greater impact of the tornado on Halloween. Families from the greater rural area traditionally drive into Dunrobin on Halloween night to let their kids go door-to-door in the friendly community. "We just thought this would help fill a gap this year because when you drive by, you realize kids can't be out in that neighbourhood trick -or - treating and the families don't necessarily have the time or energy to put a Halloween together, so we wanted to give them an opportunity to still gather as a community and not have to travel too far;" Kitchen said. https://ottawasun.com/news/local-news/h ig h -school -students -step -u p -to -give -dun robin-area-families-an-unforgettable-haIloween/wcm/63bd4ff7-8da5-4... 4/7 11/1/2018 High school students step up to give Dunrobin-area families an unforgettable Halloween I Ottawa Sun Alissa Sills, 14, and Siobhan Atkins, 15, decorate the haunted house at West Carleton High School. The family moved to the community from Abbotsford, B.C., on Sept. 20. The tornado hit Dunrobin the next day. They were living in a hotel at the time, waiting for their furniture, and their home outside Dunrobin was lucky not to sustain damage. "What an experience," Charriere said. "But seeing this community pull together like that, we knew we chose the right one to be in, that's for sure. A pretty amazing one." Seeing the families fill the school made the school's student leaders proud. "The work is worth it," Qi said.
