Now comes word Toronto Police believe there are "up to four victims" of this alleged initiation ritual on the junior football squad. "Police are in possession of videos and are conducting a through investigation;" said Insp. Domenic Sinopoli, head of the sex crime unit's child and youth advocacy centre. It means more charges could be coming. https://ottawasun.com/news/local-news/wa rm ington-sex-charges-shake-st-michaeIs-college-to-its-core/wcm/5a4ed8cc-2c6c-494f-af2a-2372c83aa8fl 1/8 11/20/2018 4, r; Watch: Opioid ta overdose: Sandy Forsyth's story WARMINGTON: Sex charges shake St. Michael's to its core I Ottawa Sun Perhaps child pornography charges for those making and distributing the alleged gang sexual assault? St. Michael's College School in Toronto on Nov. 19, 2018. (Ernest Doroszuk, Toronto Sun) Police are rule nothing out. Perhaps some heads will roll at the school. Not so far. St. Mike's embattled principal Greg Reeves was saying Monday he didn't call police "because the victim was my primary concern at that moment" but "was always intending to call police." He did call police last Monday for advice on a separate matter now being investigated. Police sources say it was described to them as water being poured on a player to which a sergeant at 13 Division suggested the student could come in to lay a complaint. Sinopoli said Reeves should have informed police of all details and evidence he knew about. Police sources say the video resulting in six students being charged with sexual assault, gang sexual assault and sexual assault with a weapon, only came to light because 13 Division officers went to the school Wednesday to find out why media was asking about eight 6 students being expelled..0c What they found there was a nightmare. The school faced it's second bomb threat and students and parents remain "shaken" at the prospect that a young football player was allegedly violated with a broom handle. "We have to do better," Reeves said. They could not have done any worse, said one graduate who is "outraged" this could ever happen. "No boy should ever have faced this;" said alumnus Skip Stanowski, who was also part of the 1961 Ontario champion St. Mike's Buzzer Junior B hockey team. "In those days, the players would never have done something like this to a teammate and coaches knew everything going on in the dressing room." Stanowski, the son of late legendary Maple Leaf defenceman Wally Stanowski, said police should have been called as soon as the first video surfaced. He added: "I don't want the school's proud history, which educated me and did so much for so many young men, to be besmirched forever because of incompetence:' Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday 11 III 11 IIHI1 II1 Email By clicking "Submit". "If any student has something to say, they should tell police and not an App;" insisted Stanowski. There has been enough social media on this." There is no question that the App should be turned off immediately and with six kids charged, four known victims and real concerns of when police were notified, Reeves should let Toronto Police handle this. Instead he, Father Jefferson Thompson and the supervising Basilian Fathers, are forging ahead with their own "independent examination" into "underlying attitudes and behaviours inconsistent with its culture and values" Said Stanowski: "I don't even know what he means. I thought this was a police investigation" ST. MICHAEL'S COLLEGE: WHAT WE KNOW SO FAR BRYAN PASSIFIUME TH E VI DEOS At least four videos are known to exist, with Toronto Police Insp. Dominic Sinopoli saying Monday he believes more videos — depicting new victims — are being circulated online. https://ottawasun.com/news/local-news/wa rm ington-sex-charges-shake-st-michaeIs-college-to-its-core/wcm/5a4ed8cc-2c6c-494f-af2a-2372c83aa8fl 4/8 11/20/2018 WARMINGTON: Sex charges shake St. Michael's to its core I Ottawa Sun The first video — which school administration learned about on Monday, Nov. 12 — depicted a young male student in his underwear being physically assaulted in a washroom sink. The investigation into this assault is ongoing. The second video — the one which initially made headlines — portrays members of the school's junior football team holding another student down in a locker room and sexually assaulting him with a broom handle. Six students were arrested in connection with this video, charged with assault, gang sexual assault, and sexual assault with a weapon. The assault depicted in this video is so graphic that police say the content meets criteria to be considered child pornography and warn anybody in possession of the video to delete it immediately. Police are also in possession of two other videos, each apparently depicting assaults of separate victims. Information on those have not been released. While no specific timeline has been made available on when the assaults took place, Sinopoli said they all occurred this school year. THE INVESTIGATION The Toronto Police officers are conducting multiple investigations into the St. Mike's allegations. On Monday, five students turned themselves into police. A sixth student was arrested on his way to school. Of the four victims so far addressed by police, two were victims of assault, while the other two were victims of sexual assault. At least 50 witnesses have been identified by police, who continue to provide new information to investigators. THE EXPULSIONS A total of eight students have been expelled, all in connection with the second video. It's unknown how many, if any, of the expelled students were charged by police. https://ottawasun.com/news/local-news/wa rm ington-sex-charges-shake-st-michaeIs-college-to-its-core/wcm/5a4ed8cc-2c6c-494f-af2a-2372c83aa8fl 5/8 11/20/2018 WARMINGTON: Sex charges shake St. Michael's to its core I Ottawa Sun THE DELAY Concerns have been raised over the decision by St. Mike's principal Greg Reeves to not immediately inform police about the videos. Reeves defended the delay by saying the victim had not yet informed his family about the assault, while Sinopoli said the Child, Youth and Family Services Act puts a duty on all individuals, "in particular professionals working with children;' to report incidents. He said police will not comment on the delay until after the investigation's conclusion, but said he felt the videos should have been reported to police on Monday. THETIMELINE Monday, Nov. 12: School administration learns of the existence of the first video — depicting a boy being assaulted in a washroom sink. St. Mike's principal Greg Reeves claims he advised police about the video. Sinopoli said officers at 13 Division were informed about an unspecified 'hazing incident' at the school and offered advice. Wednesday, Nov. 14: Toronto journalists are provided copies of the second video — depicting the locker room broomstick assault — and notify police, who dispatched officers to the school. Also on Wednesday, Reeves informed police of a third assault. Eight St. Mike's students are expelled, which Sinopoli says were in connection with the broomstick videos. Thursday, Nov. 15: Reeves learns of another sexual assault at the school, which Sinopoli said occured 'prior' to the first two videos, bringing the number of active assault investigations to four. Sunday, Nov. 18: Reeves is e-mailed a fourth video, which he claims he did not view but immediately forwarded to police. St. Mike's announces the launch of an "independent examination" into "underlying attitudes and behaviours inconsistent with its culture and values:' Monday, Nov. 19: On the same day, the school receives a bomb threat, Toronto police arrest six teens, charging them with assault, gang sexual assault, and sexual assault with a weapon — all in connection with the second video. https://ottawasun.com/news/local-news/wa rm ington-sex-charges-shake-st-michaeIs-college-to-its-core/wcm/5a4ed8cc-2c6c-494f-af2a-2372c83aa8fl 6/8 11/20/2018 WARMINGTON: Sex charges shake St. Michael's to its core I Ottawa Sun Comments Share your thoughts fk: i,, sorf,Ifaf,",I's "'1111 III S`1111 1111111III ,I ,Ilt,.IT in,I 1,I,I r ;. elll r,S C I'l r°},r,„I.,Io,I fc') I l'rlll't(;Ilaaii Uncle testifies, parents put Transit questions remain but accused killer son on pedestal crime wave subsides in Barrhaven 1111°1111IIII IIII ,1111 111V IIIFIIII Y11EIRS SEXSOMNIA CASE: Brockville man guilty of sexual assault i uulllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll ETSMARr Y i1RSINC;idM01CSP fG4 7 M SNOW MOST[ PIR 6d N6 ,III1I1II1I al!"I B S1S,1\l\\\l°m1111?uaSu I loverfair Ilf°:III III°° SEXSOMNIA CASE: Brockville man guilty of sexual assault i uulllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll dl r uuuuuuNNNNNuuuuuullllllllllllllllllllllllllll Y CPU t II°°laveur lir, II::::IIIyeir ItIErrri, a, V f""'t Jn ll,t„ II6'> Defence lawyer argues at close of 'Maestro whole thing's a lie' First snow, then get ready for the mercury tc ASK AMY: Ex keeps his former wife on the hi NNNwggNNNNNuuuuuulllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllNGO", MEW. m-1Amm u II°°lur `aur IIFIII d III III IIIf1111;111"'1111 https://ottawasun.com/news/local-news/wa rm ington-sex-charges-shake-st-michaeIs-college-to-its-core/wcm/5a4ed8cc-2c6c-494f-af2a-2372c83aa8fl 7/8 11/20/2018 WARMINGTON: Sex charges shake St. Michael's to its core I Ottawa Sun We encourage all readers to share their views on our articles and blog posts.
