"Everyone is safe," tweeted Limestone District School Board. "Parents are asked not to attend the school as police are securing the area." Nicole Kellar, a part-time student at LCVI, said the lockdown came during the lunch period while many students were off the property. "When the cops were coming, they were driving really fast down the road with their sirens on," Kellar described. "Then they got out with their guns as quick as they could." Just before 12:20 a.m., an announcement over the LCVI PA system announced the school was now in a hold and secure. The hold and secure at LCVI and neighbouring elementary schools has since been lifted. Const. Sandra Barr of Leeds Ontario Provincial Police confirmed that Rideau District High School in Elgin was put into lockdown at about 11:50 a.m. She said the school also received a threatening phone call, similar to those received in Kingston. It has since moved to a hold and secure. KCVI was also received a threat and was put into a lockdown at about 2:10 p.m. Holy Name Catholic School's threat was received a little after 2:30 p.m. Holy Name is the first elementary school to receive a direct threat. "Kingston Police are actively investigating the threats made yesterday and today to some of our local schools," police said in a news release. "The threats have been similar in nature and no actual threat has been found at any school at this time. "Protocols for police and school response to these types of threats have been established for the safety of all students and staff in mind. On Wednesday, Regiopolis-Notre Dame Catholic High School, Holy Cross Catholic Secondary School and Bayridge Secondary School also received threats over the phone and were put into lockdown. The threats indicated that a person was going to go to each school with weapons and the intent to do harm, police said. A Twitter account online has taken responsibility for the calls. "Kingston Police are asking the public to not interact with any suspects via social media," they tweeted. Const. Curtis Dick of the Frontenac OPP said early Thursday afternoon that they currently are at Sydenham High School as a precaution. Officers are speaking to students who claim to have interacted with the Twitter account that is taking credit for the threatening phone calls. Students at a local private school have been sent home. The exterior doors to the school were locked for the remainder of the day. A lockdown is put into place when there is a potential threat inside the school. All exterior and interior doors are locked and staff and students stay in their classrooms. Once police searched and deemed each secondary school safe, they were moved into a "hold and secure," meaning only exterior doors are locked and normal school activities continue.
