OTTAWA-CARLETON
DISTRICT SCIIOOL BOARD
Office of the Chair of the Board
30 January 2019
Hon. Lisa M. Thompson
Minister of Education
22nd Floor, Mowat Block
900 Bay Street
Toronto, ON M7A 1L2
Dear Minister Thompson:
The request for input from ADM Martyn Beckett and ADM Andrew Davis, unfortunately,
imposes a deadline of 22 February 2019 for responses to an invitation dated 23 January
2019, allowing less than a month for your education partners to give thoughtful
consideration to the engagement questions.
Trustees of the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board would appreciate an opportunity
to respond as a board, in light of the questions and comments that parents often make
directly to us, their locally elected representatives, regarding their perceptions of over-
large class sizes and the impact of frequent teacher changes as the hiring process
sometimes requires a series of short-term occasional teachers before a class can be
permanently staffed.
Our board and committee meeting schedule makes it very challenging to develop and
approve a board submission in less than a month. We are therefore requesting an
extension of the proposed deadline to 28 February 2019, to allow our trustees to review
the consultation papers properly and provide our board response.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
2/4
Lynn Cott
