Supporting School Councils is a one-stop destination for the latest school council information, news, tips, resources and reminders. As a newsletter subscriber, you will continue to receive regular emails with important updates. Each update will also be posted on our Supporting School Councils: News and Updates page, making it easier to find information on topics of interest. These posts can be translated into other languages or read aloud using the built-in accessibility tools at the top of each page. As we continue to grow and expand these resources, we welcome your feedback, ideas, and questions. Here are a few ways to connect with us:  Does your council have an innovative initiative or success story that you would like to share with us? Email us.  Have a question about a topic you'd like to see covered in a future post or newsletter? Submit it through our online form. School Council Information School Council Insurance Insurance coverage for school councils is paid for by the District and is provided through the Ontario School Boards’ Insurance Exchange (OSBIE) and Arthur J. Gallagher Canada Limited Brokers for the policy period November 1, 2021 to November 1, 2022. Learn more. Funding for School Councils Good news - we are in the process of sending every school council $500 to assist with parent engagement activities. The Ministry provides these funds specifically for parent involvement activities in your school for 2021-2022. Find out more. School Council Spotlight: Vimy Ridge Public School Remembrance Day Rock Garden Vimy Ridge Public School Council's Clean, Green & Creative Committee brought together their school community to create a Remembrance Garden outside the school. This beautiful art installation features over 1,000 rocks hand-painted by students and staff in honour of Remembrance Day and the 100th anniversary of the poppy in Canada. Read the story. Coming Soon: Kindergarten and High School Registration In January and February 2022, OCDSB schools will once again be hosting virtual parent information nights to support families of students entering kindergarten and high school. Full details will be shared in the new year. We invite councils to promote these events in their communities and share suggestions on new ways to engage prospective families. Learn more. Key Dates and Reminders  Events, Board and Committee Meetings: Check the OCDSB Events Calendar regularly to view upcoming Board meetings, committee meetings, and events open to families and students.  Ottawa Public Health Statement: On December 16th, Dr. Vera Etches released a Special Statement with an update on COVID-19, vaccinations and testing. Read it here.  Mental Health Supports and Resources: We recognize that coping with the ongoing pandemic has been stressful and it can feel overwhelming for many of us. Remember, no matter what you’re going through, you don’t have to go through it alone. If you or someone you know is struggling, there are resources available on our website for students, staff, and families.  Winter Break: The last day of school for elementary and secondary students is Friday, December 17th. Students will return to class on Monday, January 3, 2022. Schools will be closed as of the end of regular school hours on Friday, December 17th and will reopen on Monday, January 3, 2022. All OCDSB sites and programs will be closed on December 24, 2021 and will reopen on January 3, 2022. Have a safe and relaxing winter break!
