There have been many transitions for families over the past few weeks, and we appreciate all the work that School Councils have continued to do to engage their communities and keep connected with families during this time. School Council Information Coming Soon - Parents Reaching Out Grant School Council Virtual Speaker Nights This year, the district will again be launching the second annual School Council Virtual Speaker Nights. This initiative helps School Councils to get parents engaged with the school community. The district will develop a list of topics and speakers for School Councils to choose from. All Councils will be able to review the list of topics and available dates and identify their preferred session. Funding has been provided from the Ministry of Education - Parents Reaching Out (PRO) funding. Learn more and watch for more details in February. Kindergarten and High School Registration: Help Promote Your School’s Virtual Parent Information Night! In January and February, schools across the district are hosting virtual parent information nights for families of students entering kindergarten and high school. These sessions invite families to learn about our schools, meet school administrative teams, register their child, and get answers to their questions about supporting their child’s education journey. School Councils are encouraged to spread the word to their networks and local communities. We've put together some tips and template social media posts to help you promote the events and share the recordings. School Council Spotlight: Broadview Public School Snowsuit Drive The Broadview Public School Council and community organized a heartwarming initiative to provide winter gear to students and families in need in their community and donate over $2,000 to the Snowsuit Fund. Working with staff, students and families, the Council collected winter clothing donations for families at Broadview, its sister school York Street P.S., and the Caldwell Family Centre. Read more. February 22 is Toonie Tuesday The Education Foundation of Ottawa (EFO) needs your support on Toonie Tuesday! The EFO provides OCDSB students with appropriate access to food, clothing, school supplies, healthcare supports, and opportunities for learning and recreation. There are many ways to take part - find out how! Key Dates and Reminders  Events, Board and Committee Meetings: Check the OCDSB Events Calendar regularly to view upcoming Board meetings, committee meetings, and events open to families and students.  New Podcast: "In Conversation with OCDSB": Did you hear? The OCDSB has launched a new podcast! Episode one is all about getting ready for Kindergarten. Listen now and spread the word to your Council!  Parent Involvement (PINV) Funds: A memo was sent to all schools and school councils on January 17, 2022 with information about the $500.00 PINV funds that support parent engagement activities. The funds will be sent to the schools directly via electronic funds transfer (EFT) as part of their budget to be transferred to their school council. Learn more.
