Re: Appointments to the Ontario Public School Board Association for 2011-2012

PURPOSE:
1.To confirm the following appointments to the Ontario Public School Board Association
(OPSBA) Board of Directors for the period June 2011 June 2012:
two Directors to the Board of Directors;
two alternate Directors to the Board of Directors;
a voting delegate for the Eastern Regional Council Meetings and
an alternate voting delegate for the Eastern Regional Council Meetings.
BACKGROUND:
2.The Ontario Public School Boa
interests and needs of public district school boards and public school authorities in
Ontario. The OCDSB is a member of the Association.
3.The number of trustees which member Boards are entitled to have sit on the OPSBA
Board of Directors is based on full time equivalent student enrolment of a Member
Board. Section 9.01 of the OPSBA Constitution, revised June 2010, states that Member
Boards, whose pupil enrolment is more than five per cent of the total enrolment of all
Member Boards, are entitled to appoint two trustees to the Board of Directors.
4.In the spring of every year, OPSBA requests that the OCDSB provide them with the
names of the OCDSB representatives for the following positions:
2 trustees as directors and 2 alternate directors to serve on the OPSBA Board of
Directors and
1 trustee for each position of voting delegate and alternate voting delegate for the
OPSBA Annual General Meeting and Regional Council Meetings.
5. The term of office for the OPSBA Board of Directors begins and ends in June each year
coinciding with the OPSBA Annual General Meeting. As a result, the OCDSB typically
makes these appointments in the spring, and not as part of the organizational meeting.
6. The following appointments are currently in effect for the 2010-2011 OPSBA term of
office:

Trustees Campbell and FitzGerald as Directors to the OPSBA Board of
Directors;

Trustee Funiciello as 1 alternate and Trustee Seward as 2 alternate Director;
Alternate directors are appointed with the understanding that

the 1 alternate serves in the absence of either board member

with the 2 alternate serving in the absence of both board
members.
Trustee Campbell as voting delegate and Trustee Shea as alternate voting
delegate for the OPSBA Eastern Regional Council meetings and
Trustee Campbell as voting delegate and Trustee FitzGerald as alternate voting
delegate for the June 2011 Annual General Meeting.
STATUS:
7. There is no requirement to appoint the voting delegate and alternate voting delegate for
the 2011 Annual General Meeting for OPSBA as those appointments were previously
confirmed (Trustees Campbell and FitzGerald, respectively) during the 01 December
2010 Board meeting.
8. Appointments for the voting delegate and alternate voting delegate for the 2012 Annual

RECOMMENDATIONS:
It is recommended THAT:
The Board approve the following appointments to the Ontario Public School Board
Association (OPSBA) for the period June 2011 June 2012:
